Ankle pain, painful point..jpg

What is Arthritis?

Osteoarthritis is commonly thought of as "wear-and-tear" of cartilage and can affect any part of the body. The progressive disease can lead to a loss of cartilage, bone on bone pain, inflammation of the joint capsule, growth of bone spurs, and a hardening of bone around joints.

Arthritis of the foot and ankle is commonly a result of poor foot biomechanics, trauma, obesity, deformities such as bunions, hammertoes or a combination of factors.

What are symptoms?

Osteoarthritis causes pain, swelling, and stiffness of a joint. Some patients experience grinding or locking of joint and pain can be worst after a period of rest and can improve with light activity.
